Bella Musica presents soprano Sissy Dimitrakidou who will sing 2 arias at the recital on Sunday 19th May at 5pm in Dublin.

Sissy was born in Greece where she studied music since 2006. She has graduated from the only State Conservatory of Greece in Thessaloniki, where she studied in the Opera Department (class of Akis Lalousis). Her first major role was the opera “Rita” by G. Donizetti but her debut on the Greek stage was as Fatime in the opera “Abu Hassan” by Carl Maria von Weber (November 2023,Thessaloniki – conductor Vladimiros Symeonidis). Her musical studies also include violin and choir performances. She has participated in the opera “La Boheme”, Thessaloniki Concert Hall (2018) and in “Dido and Aeneas” performed both in Greece and St Petersburg Chamberopera (2019). In 2023, she has been chosen to perform in the concert of New Talents of Classical Music, representing the Opera Department of the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki.

Sissy now lives in Dublin where she is taking a Masters in Music Performance.

Bella Musica is honoured to present Mairéad Hurley as our accompanist for the Italian Opera and Song Recital on 27th January in Dublin.

Mairead was Head of Music at Opera Ireland from 1998 to 2010 and with a repertoire of over seventy operas, she has also worked for Wexford Festival Opera, Opera Theatre Company, Opera Northern Ireland, Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, Lyric Opera, RTE Proms, the NSO and the RTE Concert Orchestra. More recently, she has been chorus mistress for Blackwater Valley Opera Festival. Productions to date include L’Elisir d’Amore, L’Italiana in Algeri, and Don Pasquale.

Mairead performs regularly in recital, work which has taken her to many venues at home and abroad including the NCH, John Field Room, Wexford Festival, Boyle Festival and the Wigmore Hall, London. She has officiated at many music festivals and Masterclasses throughout the country and also officiated for Gerhard Markson’s very successful series of conducting classes in conjunction with the NSO and Dublin Masterclasses.

From 2010 until 2021, Mairead was Head of Vocal, Opera and Drama studies at TU Dublin Conservatoire. She continues her work in the Conservatoire as répétiteur in the vocal department and is external examiner for the MMus Performance in Répétiteur at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire. 

Bella Musica is delighted to welcome Bláthnaid Nicholson as one of the artists for the Italian Opera Recital on Saturday 27th January at Lutherhaus in Dublin 2.

Bláthnaid Nicholson is a soprano from Co. Kildare with a first class honours from University College Dublin in both BA Music & Drama and Bachelor of Music. She is currently studying with Orla Boylan and Aoife O’Sullivan. Bláthnaid’s most recent operatic engagements include Clorinda in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Aunt in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Julia Bertram in Dove’s Mansfield Park, cover for Lurline in Wallace’s Lurline, and as part of the BVOF Chorus in Blackwater Valley Opera Festival’s most recent productions – Verdi’s Macbeth and Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice. Additionally, she is preparing the role title role in Puccini’s Suor Angelica for TU Dublin Conservatoire’s performance in 2024.

Bláthnaid has represented the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival at their recitals in conjunction with The Castlemartyr Resort and Waterford Whisky Distillery in 2023, and performed a Young Artist Recital as part of Boyle Arts Festival 2022. Other notable engagements include soprano solos in National Concert Hall, Dublin, Carnegie Hall, New York and 3Arena, Dublin.

John is a tenor from Dublin who specialises in opera from the classical era (especially Verdi and Puccini) as well as traditional Irish songs.  John manages Bella Musica Ireland and is organising the concert on 6th May at Dublin’s Unitarian Church along with conductor Michel Poels from The Netherlands.  Michel leads the Rock Me Amadeus choir, which is visiting Ireland to perform a mix of hits blending genres from Mozart to Queen!
